West Coast of Scotland

Majestic West Coast of Scotland

The coastline of Ayrshire is another example of Scotland’s beautiful coastline.

Located less than a 2-hour drive from Glasgow, the Ayrshire coastline offers plenty of beach walks and coastal rambles for those who love the outdoors.
The area is also the birthplace of Scotland’s most famous literary bard – Robert Burns. Visitors can spend time in the dedicated museum and visit the house he was born in.

Another historic feature is the majestic Culzean Castle, perched on a cliff top looking out on the Atlantic Ocean. This stretch of coastline also houses some of the world’s most famous links golf courses.

Top 3 Courses

1. Prestwick Golf Club

Prestwick Golf Club has the honor of hosting the first British Open in 1860. The layout hasn’t changed much over the years. The holes feature lots of undulations and deep bunkers, with the added challenge of some blind shots testing the golfer.

2. Turnberry Course

Turnberry is another famous links course that has also hosted many British Opens. Extensive work has been carried out in recent years to improve the character of the course bringing holes closer to the sea. The iconic lighthouse on the 9th also serves as the halfway house for this gem of a course.

3. Dundonald Links

Dundonald Links is a relatively new addition to the area, opening in 2005 and designed by Kyle Phillips. The course features friendly fairways and bunkers, but there is still trouble faced for wilder shots with extensive gorse and burns throughout the course.
