North East of Scotland

Royal North East of Scotland

Traveling north, following the coastline from the city of Aberdeen, you will witness some of Scotland’s most rugged and beautiful landscapes.

With the relentless North Sea pounding against towering cliffs, this area of the country offers plenty of castles sharing some of Scotland’s history, including Balmoral – the Scottish home of the royal family.

Many whiskey and gin distilleries are located in this part of the country, with plenty of options on where to stay and eat, working from Aberdeen around to Inverness.

Top 3 Courses

1. Balgownie

Royal Aberdeen boasts two courses, the Balgownie course being the more famous of the two. This is a classic links course with holes carved through high sand dunes. The front 9 is the more undulating side, but the back 9 features a few tricky blind shots to test the golfer.

2. Trump International

Trump International opened for play in 2012 and is a modern twist of what a classic old links course should be. Steeply undulating dunes offer elevated tees and deep valleys that the course routes through. The North Sea becomes a water hazard on some of the holes in this modern classic.

3. Murcar Links

Murcar Links is a testing links layout that has been in existence since 1909 and neighbors Royal Aberdeen. Driving the ball well to avoid the rough and gorse and controlling iron shots are key to coming away from Murcar with a good score.
